HANDGUN COURSES

TACTICAL HANDGUN 101

Our most popular 3-day course is a complete introduction to the defensive use of the handgun. The comprehensive curriculum encompasses all elements of  the 'ModernTechnique of the Pistol' and introduces new concepts in tactical applications. The format provides a base in the fundamentals of marksmanship, tactical manipulation, the draw stroke, malfunction clearance, weapon retention, shooting on the move, moving targets, alternate tactical body positions, low-light shooting, and mental conditioning. Other topics include basic one man tactics, working with a partner, and an introduction to team tactics. This course is appropriate for beginners and is also recommended as a refresher for those with experience.
Ammunition Requirement: 600 Rounds.

TACTICAL HANDGUN BASICS

Designed as a 2-day weekend course for those who find it difficult to devote time for training due to their busy work schedules. The focus is on those aspects of training which are most vital to short range personal defense in potentially lethal encounters. The course incorporates the basics of marksmanship with dynamic tactical situations.

Ammunition Requirement: 400 Rounds.

LADIES ONLY HANDGUN

Women can do anything the men can do, sometimes better.

They have an open mind, they listen, and they don't bring preconceived and sometimes misguided notions to the table.  I find that women can make great students.

This class is virtually the same as Tactical Handgun Basics, but without all the testosterone pollution in the air.    ;)

The 2-day course is adapted to address a few issues specific to women, such as carrying a handgun in a purse, and holster selection based on individual body types.

Ammunition Requirement: 400 Rounds.

INTERMEDIATE HANDGUN

The content of this course presumes that the

student is already familiar with everything taught in our entry level class. (TH101) The student will probably not have mastered everything, but should not need much explanation as to terminology or how, what, when, and where.

The class is about repetition. It gives the student a chance to polish while under a watchful eye, but without long-winded explanations or redundant verbiage from the instructor.

 A 3-day course

Ammunition Requirement:  1,500 Rounds.

HANDGUN II

The student is required to face complex issues of marksmanship and tactics in this advanced class. Having established a solid base of fundamentals and tactical awareness from the prerequisite program, this course continues to develop and refine the techniques to a deeper level of understanding. The curriculum includes shooting with the non-dominant hand, one handed weapons manipulation, transition to a backup handgun, live-fire tactical simulators, and more in depth team tactics. The ability to function while under conditions of mental stress becomes paramount. A 3-day course.
Ammunition Requirement: 750 Rounds.

CLOSE QUARTER TACTICS

While training has traditionally focused on development of the shooting skills required to hit small targets at great distance, this just isn't the way it happens in real life. Most lethal confrontations occur at contact distance!

It may come as a surprise. It will happen suddenly.

It will be quicker than even the "Fastest gun in the West" can get a pistol out of a holster. We must first survive the initial assault (especially against edged or impact weapons), and now is not the time to realize that we "shouldn't have brought a gun to a knife fight."

It helps to use efficient foot work to buy time and create distance, enabling us to get the gun out. The focus of the course is on this seemingly simple, yet very complex concept.

Topics also include:

Weapon Retention - keeping your gun from being taken away from you.

Counter Retention - taking your attacker's gun away from him (disarms).

The course requires the student have a blue, red, or orange PLASTIC inert dummy gun that fits their normal carry holster. It is recommended that students also have a pair of heavy leather work gloves to protect the hands.  (When pistols are being forcibly stripped from your hands the front sights can leave some nasty cuts.)

The course also includes live fire.

This course may be offered in 2-day or 3-day course.

Ammunition Requirement: 400 Rounds.

Prerequisites apply. A handgun class from either Cumberland Tactics or any of the other trainers that we link to will suffice, but there simply isn't enough time to teach a student to draw safely or shoot accurately in this course. It is expected that the student has already reached a level of proficiency with fundamentals before stepping on the line.

COMBINATION CLASSES

Combination classes (Handgun/Shotgun, Handgun/Subgun, etc.) may be scheduled dependent upon the needs of the client.
Ammunition Requirement: To be determined
